The results of a recent national online survey of small business owners
conducted by The UPS Store indicate more than 75 percent of small
business owners rely on outside partners to fill gaps in expertise and
more than half said they outsource to effectively manage time
constraints.
The most commonly outsourced tasks are those that do not require
intimate knowledge of the business, such as website hosting,
telecommunication solutions and credit card processing.
“We know firsthand the kinds of challenges small business owners face,
and we offer solutions that work,” said Michelle Van Slyke, vice
president of marketing and small business solutions at The UPS Store.
“Our goal is to make it easier for small business owners to run their
day-to-day operations by working with trusted experts like The UPS
Store and our vendor partners.”
Nancy Hart, for example, is a small business owner in Kingsport, Tenn.,
who relies on the support of experts to help her operate and grow her
business. “My advice to other small business owners is: If you know how
to do it, do it. If you don’t, find someone who does.”
Nancy relies on her local UPS Store as an extension of her team for
printing, packing, shipping and faxing needs.
In determining the right service provider, The UPS Store found
that small business owners like to do their own homework as well as rely
on recommendations from professionals. Three-fourths of those surveyed
claiming to do their own online research, and 67 percent look for
recommendations from professionals.
More than 450,000 people have taken advantage of The UPS Store’s
Small Business Solutions portal, which also includes a small
business-focused blog and tips and resources from small business
experts including SCORE.
