Small business incentive program growing

MILLEDGEVILLE —
The Milledgeville Downtown Development Authority’s (DDA) BOOST initiative is really taking flight.

The small business incentive grant program has more than 30 charter members pledging to donate $100 twice a year, while some agreed to put forth more. 

“Local businesses and community members are realizing the impact that a grant program like BOOST can make for our downtown businesses and entrepreneurs. The small monetary investment from many creates the ability to provide larger grants to these business owners,” DDA Director Carlee Schulte said. “This infusion of capital into our local community is a new creative way to help ourselves. Similar programs are popping up all across the nation and the Milledgeville Downtown Development Authority is proud to be home of another.” 

On the other side of the program are the business applications. BOOST has received eight applications so far with requests for repairs and renovations as well as business equipment. The deadline for businesses to apply for the BOOST Grant is Wednesday, July 10. 

BOOSTERS will then be emailed all applications and will send in, via email, their vote for the grant winner. The results will be tallied and the winner announced on August 1. 

“The DDA thinks it is time to show some action and this would be a first small step in the right direction to send the message that small business owners and entrepreneurs are extremely important to downtown Milledgeville,” Schulte said.
